I got a Samsonite suitcase - what to do with this?
The task was to create or manipulate the object and use materials around the main theme of this object, just like Tom Sachs. I studied everything in the smallest detail, the exact material and screws to the business core of Samsonite.
The concept of this was growing while I studied our travelling habits. How we used to travel and how we might travel in the future. Because of the European climate goals for 2050, there might be some drastic changes just around the corner.
How will this affect the travel?
I answer this with a more environmentally friendly luggage concept. Handmade, knitted wool and linen thread, sewn together and then moulded into the original suitcase shape together with paraffin and beeswax, to make it stiff.
(Little did I know, that a covid-19 was going to hit the world in just a few weeks after the project was done, and no one could travel)
Made with wool, linnen thread on a knitting machine, shaped and molded in the original suitcase with beeswax.
